Paper Helicopter

Created By: David Dziubanksi, James Hawcott, Mark McCormick

For your final project, you will be constructing a paper attack helicopter. You will follow a given set of instructions along with a paper blueprint to construct this helicopter. This blueprint could be modified using different dimensions from the chart below, which will allow you to create many different flight patterns. Allow yourself 15 minutes for construction of this helicopter. Following the instructions will make this project simple and will ensure proper construction. Your goal is to create a helicopter that will have a successful flight. This will get you on the right path to receiving a good grade.

(Items needed one 8.5-inch * 11-inch sheet of paper, clear tape or glue stick, ruler, scissors’.)

Click on blueprint below for full screen. Print off photo of helicopter blue print. The helicopter blueprint is measured to the maximum in all the dimensions.

Dimension Restrictions
3< B <8
2< H <4
2< L <6
.5< W <3

1. Cut ½ inch part A off the top.

2. Cut ½ inch hashed part B off the side.

3. Cut 1 inch strips off both sides marked tabs C these strips will be 6 ½ inches long.

4. Cut dash line 1 for helicopter flaps. The flaps can be cut between a
maximum width of 3 inches and a minimum width of 1/2 inch. Ensure both sides are the same width if trimmed from original size. The flaps can also be cut from the original 6 inch length down to a minimum of 2 inches. Ensure both flaps are trimmed down the same length.

5. Cut dash line 2 for helicopter base. Base can be cut from the original 8 inches down to a minimum of 3 inches.

6. Fold sides of base in on fold lines marked. This will take multiple folds to fit within the one inch base. Put tape around base wraps so paper does not unfold during flight. The base can be cut from the original 4 inch height down to a minimum of 2 inches. After folding place paperclip at bottom of the base holding the paper together and giving the helicopter weight.(Video available below for folding example if needed.)

7. Fold flaps down toward base along fold lines 90 degrees to base. Each flap
folds in opposite direction.(Video available below for folding example if needed.)

When finished the paper helicopter is dropped and will rotate on the way to the ground.
